At home and indoors

15 indoor enrichment ideas for rainy days

On a wet day, the best indoor enrichment replaces what your dog would have got from a walk: sniffing, a bit of movement and something new to think about. Here are 15 ideas you can pick from. Choose three or four and spread them across the day with rest in between.

For a ready-made schedule for the whole day, see our rainy day plan.

How to use this list

  1. Pick one from each group: a nose game, a brain game, a movement game and a calm finish.
  2. Space them out, with naps in between. Dogs don't need to be busy all day.
  3. Use part of your dog's daily food so a busy indoor day doesn't add calories.
  4. If the rain eases, a ten-minute sniff outside still adds a lot.
